X Japan at Lollapalooza 2010
I first learned about X Japan through a friend about 2 or 3 years ago. Last fall, I was listening to the “Last Live” album, and thought: “Gosh, it would be AWESOME if X Japan were to come to America…” I googled around and found out that they might be coming to Lollapalooza, a 3-day-long music festival in 2010. I was very excited to hear the news that was later confirmed to be true. I bought tickets and reserved my hotel in May or so, then went on Sunday, August 8th.
It was a little strange to hear some of their classic songs (such as Rusty Nail) in English, but I think can get used to them. I took 9MP pictures and recorded 720p AVCHD video of them with my trusty Panasonic Lumix ZS3 and uploaded them to facebook and youtube. Seeing them from about 30 feet away was just amazing. The speakers were blowing my eardrums out, but I was starstruck. Heck, I still am. Toshi (vocals) and Yoshiki (drums/piano) even announced that the performance was their first official show in the USA! I got a fan kit ordered from JRockRevolution (which includes a t-shirt :’D) and I cannot wait to purchase their new upcoming album in the fall!
In other news, I also got to see Wolfmother and Soundgarden at the same stage right after X Japan. Apparently, this Lollapalooza was also Soundgarden’s first reunion show. I will never forget Lolla 2010!
